What is a Sound Bath?
Book an Aerial Sound Bath in Huntington Beach, Sundays at 7pm
If you’ve never experienced a sound bath before, the name alone can sound a little… out there.
No water. No actual “bath.”
So what is it?
At Open Aerial Yoga, we explain it a little differently than most.
What a Sound Bath Actually Is
A sound bath is an experience where you simply lay down, close your eyes, and let sound move through your body.
In our case, you’re not on the ground. You’re floating in an aerial yoga hammock.
While you rest, a sound healer plays crystal singing bowls, chimes, gongs, rainsticks, and other instruments around you.
Those sounds aren’t just something you hear. You feel them.
Imagine placing a speaker into a pool of water. You would see ripples moving through the water in every direction.
Your body is made mostly of water, so a similar ripple effect is happening inside of you as the sound waves move through your muscles, tissues, and organs.
That’s why people don’t just hear a sound bath. They experience it.
Why Floating Makes It More Powerful
Most sound baths happen on the floor.
Ours don’t.
Floating in a hammock changes everything.
Instead of the ground absorbing some of the sound vibration, your body is fully suspended. That allows the sound waves to move more freely through your entire body.
It also allows the sound healer to move instruments all the way around you. Not just beside you, but underneath you as well, including beneath your sacrum, which is an area especially receptive to vibration.
On top of that, the hammock molds to your body.
You’re not adjusting. You’re not fidgeting. You’re fully supported.
That deeper level of physical comfort makes it much easier to drop into a relaxed state.
What It Feels Like
Our students say things like:
“I feel lighter”
“It felt like I just got a massage”
“I haven’t felt this calm in a long time”
That “massage” feeling isn’t random.
When sound waves move through the body, they create subtle internal movement. Almost like a ripple through your muscles and tissues.
Mentally, people often feel peaceful, quiet, and clear.
Some even drift into dreamlike states.
One student told us they had a vivid experience of walking through a bright field of flowers. Calm, warm, and completely at ease.
And then there’s the hammock itself.
The moment people get in, they often say it feels childlike. Like being in a cocoon. Like being held.
Some describe it as a reset.
What About the “Healing” Part?
Let’s be real for a second.
Some people hear “healing frequencies” and immediately think it sounds too woo-woo.
Others are completely into it.
Here’s the honest take:
Sound baths are scientifically shown to promote relaxation and calm the nervous system.
If you’re more on the skeptical side, you can think of it as a deeply immersive way to unplug, slow down, and reset your mind and body.
If you’re more open to the energetic side, you may experience it as something deeper.
Either way, you’re going to walk out feeling better than when you walked in.
What to Expect, Step by Step
We’ve designed the experience so there’s zero stress from the moment you book.
Before you even arrive, we send you clear instructions on what to wear and where to park.
When you walk in, our front desk team greets you, shows you around, and makes sure you know exactly where everything is.
Then we help you get into the hammock.
It’s easier than people expect. You just sit down like you’re sitting in a chair, then lay back like you’re getting into a bed.
Once you’re comfortable, the session begins.
You lay there. You listen. You relax.
That’s it.
At the end, we gently bring you out of it, help you out of the hammock, and check in on how you feel.
Who This Is Perfect For
This is a great fit if you:
Enjoy yoga, meditation, or music
Want to relax without having to “do” anything
Are open to trying something new
Can comfortably lay still for an extended period
It might not be the best fit if you:
Don’t like laying down for long periods
Prefer high-energy or movement-based experiences
Snore heavily (we’ll wake you up, and yes, that happens)
Common Concerns (That Don’t End Up Being Issues)
A lot of people worry about getting into the hammock.
It’s simple.
We guide you through it, and we have staff there to help the entire time.
Others think an hour might feel long.
In reality, most people wish it lasted longer.
We ease you in at the beginning and gently bring you out at the end, so it never feels abrupt or overwhelming.
If You’re On the Fence
If you’re even a little curious, it’s worth trying.
You don’t need experience. You don’t need flexibility. You don’t need to “be good” at anything.
You just lay in the hammock.
You’ll feel better afterward.
And if you’ve ever thought about trying aerial yoga, it’s the easiest, lowest-pressure way to step into the studio, meet the team, and get comfortable before doing anything more active.
